Dr. Varun D Shende has obtained doctoral degree from Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya (BCKV) in Plant Breeding as major subject of Plant breeding & Genetics and Vegetable Crops as minor subjects. He received SRF Fellowship sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture, Govt. Of India during his Ph.D. programme. He obtained advanced skills in morphological characterization, DUS testing, hybrid development, hybrid evaluation, breeding for disease resistance, evaluation of hybrids in multilocation trials, inbred line development, line conversion, development of Genetic male sterile lines, seed production process and the hybrid performance evaluation, Transfer of disease resistance.

Dr. Varun has scientific publications in five international and five national peer reviewed journals.
