Agronomy is a prime branch of agricultural sciences which deals with principles of and practices of soil, water and crop management. The department of Agronomy offers courses at Graduate level in crop production, agrometeorology, rainfed agriculture, agroforestry, farming system and organic farming. Agronomy focuses on newer and improved ways of performing agriculture.
Objectives
i.To disseminate knowledge and understanding of plant and environment, together with agricultural practices aimed at higher productivity
ii.To develop technologies for better soil, water and crop management
iii.To obtain maximum production at minimum cost
iv.To conduct research on scientific cultivation of crops taking into account the effects of factors like soil, climate, and variety of crop and adjust production techniques suitably depending on the situation
